Chicago fans of NBA YoungBoy were left disappointed in September. The Louisiana star was scheduled to take the stage at the United Center for the Make America Slime Again Tour. But things started to feel uneasy when the venue announced a strict clear bag rule right before the concert.
Those security measures eventually led to the event being canceled altogether. YB’s manager, Alex Junnier, was quick to speak out, writing on Instagram Stories, “@unitedcenter b*tched out.”
Even so, the United Center didn’t directly confirm that the security rules were the reason. Their statement read, “Cancellation statement: The United Center has made the decision to cancel the NBA YoungBoy show scheduled for Wednesday, September 24 in Chicago. If you purchased through Ticketmaster, refunds will be issued automatically. If you purchased from a third-party reseller, please reach out to your point of purchase. No further comment at this time.”
The cancellation caught the attention of the late King Von’s sister, Kayla B, who had her own reaction. “At the end of the day, motherf*ckers wanted that show to go on to be funny,” she said. “‘Oh, I’m in your city aha.’ Look now, aha, you can’t even do the show.”
Her reaction connects back to YoungBoy being linked to King Von’s death. Quando Rondo, a close friend of YB, was with Von during the altercation that led to the shooting. The incident escalated tensions, pulling in Lil Durk, who now faces a murder-for-hire case connected to the killing of Quando Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab.
Despite the long history of conflict, G Herbo, a major figure in Chicago drill, felt YB should have had the chance to perform in his city. In a conversation caught by No Jumper, the rapper made it clear he wants to see success for everyone.
“I ain’t no hater... I wanna see him win... King Von is my brother. I don’t care about that type of sh*t… But I’m all for like empowerment when it comes to like black men.”
G Herbo also used the moment to remind fans about his next album, titled Lil Herb, coming out November 7. The project includes the singles “Reason,” “Whatever U Want,” and “Went Legit.”
