The Secret to Singer Tymaras Passion is Versatility

Tymara’s passion started in her youth in church, being deemed a “song bird” by her pastor father. The singer was trained classically but had a covert music history away from the church listening to secular music while recording songs on a tape machine Tymara and her sister had growing up in Toledo, Ohio.

“What really created this whole songbird thing was that I used to get in trouble a lot because I was bad. When we got put on punishment, and I got grounded, my dad would take our TVs and our electronics,” explains Tymara. “My sister and I had one little raggedy tape recorder and we used to record two parts of the song and then get another tape recorder, to record two more parts. And that created my infatuation with harmonies.“

Those harmonies can be heard on Tamara’s latest single, “Passion” , a dance track that fuses ‘90s electronic music. Tymara never imagined recording dance music, but her upbringing was surrounded by gospel music but the song's upbeat energy is comparable.

“I was singing at church. So I had to sing gospel, but I was sneaking in, listening to everything I wanted to. I was singing R&B, but was also in the conservatory, so I was playing classical music. It worked out because it made me extremely versatile,” says Tymara.

Now residing in Las Vegas, Tymara has had a seasoned career in the entertainment industry, working with artists Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight and on shows such as Michael Jackson One by Cirque du Soleil, at the House of Blues, and the Big Elvis Show at Harrah’s Piano Bar, where Tymara met her now manager Daniel.

“I was singing gospel in this show. And [Daniel] was like, so you have this big old voice, you should be doing house music. Let's do house music. And it occurred to me, I've really been singing gospel all my life,” tells Tymara. “Because it's always a big diva sound and that's what I've been trained in the most in singing. So it all came together to something I never thought about, probably should have, but it just never crossed my mind. So he was a blessing, too.”

“Passion,” the first single off of Tymara’s forthcoming album Addicted, was written by Chicago songwriter Lady Haze. Tymara worked together with Daniel to create the harmonies.

“I knew it was going to be a bop because when I heard the track, you can't help but dance to it. And then my process is when I finish the song, then I listen to it a million times to see what I like, or what I don't like.”

Addicted will consist of 12 tracks of various types of house music, from the roots of Chicago house, euro dance, soul music, gospel, as well as latin house tracks such as Tamara’s cover of Nocera’s 1986 single “Summertime, Summertime.” Tymara creates a signature sound on the album, while also bringing in nostalgia for electronica of the past and a voice that can uplift both a church pew and a club dance floor.
