Opening with the driving energy and rich, Hawkwind-esque intensity of Through Dimensions, the band quickly showcases the tight bass and guitar licks that characterise their sound. These are complemented by beautifully crafted fuzzy guitar tones and sprawling, swirling instrumental breaks.
Led by vocalist and songwriter Rory’s urgent, surprisingly catchy lead vocal, the track grows to a swirling, wah-wah-heavy guitar solo at the two-minute mark. It then slides gracefully into an intense and dark midsection, weaving through a wash of spacey, psychedelic guitar work characterised by layers of delay, gradually leading into Crying Beasts.
Like an intense, playful jam, the band’s togetherness, musical compatibility, and tightness as a unit shine brightly throughout. Blending each track seamlessly into the next, the energy and immersive nature of their performance persist as they dive in and out of Hendrix-esque guitar breaks. The drums build through feverish, jazz-influenced rhythms, climaxing in a wall of grinding, deep fuzz.
Ending with the swirling psychedelic synths and delay-drenched guitar lines of Planets Clash, the band’s musicality and experimentation stand out. Their sound moves between moments of distorted intensity reminiscent of Black Sabbath and segments firmly within the realms of ’70s psychedelic rock.
A brilliant showcase for the band’s sound, flavoured with outstanding displays of musicianship, School Disco highlights the freeing, unpredictable, and restless psychedelic rock style that makes them such an exciting prospect.
