Sabrina Carpenter’s seventh studio project, Man’s Best Friend, turns up the heat more than ever. After weeks of teasing, the album finally arrived on Friday, paired with the sultry release of the music video for its second track, “Tears,” which stars Colman Domingo in drag.

The visual begins with Carpenter, sharply dressed in a pale blue skirt suit and matching sun hat, regaining consciousness on the ground after a car accident. Her boyfriend appears lifeless in the driver’s seat as she pulls herself up and wanders toward a desolate-looking house in the middle of nowhere. When she peers inside, she notices a set of legs covered in fishnet tights. The door suddenly swings open, and she steps through, encountering Domingo, who stands in a cropped pinstripe suit and bold red lipstick.

As the camera trails Carpenter through the eccentric corridors and tilted rooms, she encounters an eye-catching mix of characters and wild, unpredictable moments that match the energy of the track. While singing the chorus, “I get wet at the thought of you/Being a responsible guy/Treating me like you’re supposed to do/Tears run down my thighs”, she even joins Domingo for a playful dance break. In the final scene, the Grammy winner sums it up with a line that captures the video’s spirit: “You have to give the people what they want.”

Speaking during a Spotify event celebrating the album’s release, Carpenter explained that the inspiration behind the record was centered on following instinct. “It was really about giving in to the spontaneous moments, following the impulses I was feeling and the experiences I needed to capture quickly in writing,” she said. “I also knew that if I didn’t make this project to reflect the exact part of my life it represents, it would have ended up becoming something completely different, and I don’t think that would have done justice to the album.”
