Demi Lovato is preparing to release her new album It’s Not That Deep next month.

The 33-year-old star has been hinting at a shift into a dance-pop sound with the singles “Fast” and “Here All Night,” and now she will drop her ninth studio album on October 24.

The project will be executive produced by Zhone – known for work with Charli XCX and Kylie Minogue – and will feature a total of 11 tracks.

In a statement, Demi shared: “This music perfectly reflects where I am in my life right now. Creating this album with Zhone was such a joyful, liberating experience. It felt good to let go and just have fun with it.

“In my previous eras, I often made music that was cathartic and helped me process heavy emotions. When I went back into the studio this time, those types of songs didn’t resonate anymore because I’m not in that space in my life.

“I feel happy, I’m in love, and I just want to celebrate life. That’s when I realized it’s not that deep anymore, and that became the heart of this album. It’s Not That Deep was made for late nights and dancefloors, and I can’t wait for everyone to dance along with me.”

Lovato’s last record, 2022’s Holy Fvck, leaned heavily into rock and even earned her the title of “a metalhead at heart” from guitarist Nita Strauss, who joined the “OK Not to Be OK” singer on tour.

Speaking to Metal Hammer, Nita said: “It wasn’t as much of a departure as I thought it would be. Demi put together a really strong rock album, so they brought in a rock band to deliver a rock show. Demi truly is a metalhead. I’d pass her dressing room and hear Megadeth blasting. She even introduced me to this amazing deathcore band called Bodysnatcher. She’s the real deal.”

Nita also pointed out that while rock fans can be quick to complain when an artist experiments with a different style, Demi’s audience welcomed the change.

She explained: “Her fans are so loyal that they’ll support her no matter what direction she takes. The thing about the rock and metal community – which I love and is where I come from – is that people can be overly critical.

“If a band tries something slightly different from what they’ve always done, fans often act like it ruins everything: ‘All their new stuff is terrible!’ Look at Metallica. They’re the biggest band in the world, and people still find reasons to tear down their new music.”
