Zohran Mamdani spent Friday night dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s viral diss track “Not Like Us” while campaigning in New York City. He used Halloween night to visit several clubs, encouraging people to come out and vote in the upcoming mayoral election. Clips of him speaking to the crowd as the song played in the background quickly began spreading across social media.
“I’m out here because we’ve got three days until this election, and I want to make sure everyone knows it,” he told supporters. “We’ve got three days to make history in this city, three days to make this a city everyone can afford. Are you ready to beat Andrew Cuomo? And are you ready to make history? Let’s do it together, my friends.”
Throughout the evening, Mamdani made stops at popular Brooklyn spots such as Mood Ring and Elsewhere, staying out until around two in the morning to connect with voters.
Zohran Mamdani’s campaign has focused on creating a more affordable New York City for all residents. His platform includes proposals like free public buses, universal childcare, city-run grocery stores, and rent freezes for rent-stabilized housing.
He faces off against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who Mamdani previously defeated in the Democratic primary. Cuomo is now running independently under his “Fight and Deliver Party” banner, while the Republican candidate in the race is Curtis Sliwa.
During an interview with CNN’s 60 Minutes on Sunday, Donald Trump commented on the election, threatening to cut federal funding for New York City if Mamdani were to win. “It’s gonna be hard for me as the president to give a lot of money to New York, because if you have a Communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending there,” Trump said, as reported by The Advocate. He also added that he was “much better looking” than Mamdani.
