Alicia Keys picked up Italian and Spanish so she could record a new song.
The Empire State of Mind singer appears on legendary Italian artist Eros Ramazzotti’s latest album, Una Storia Importante. The 44 year old star said the experience of recording L’aurora in multiple languages was “incredible”.
She told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “We had the best time. We are performing this gorgeous song, L’aurora, and I was learning it in Spanish as well as Italian.”
“And it is truly exciting to sing in a completely different language, with all the poetry and beauty that comes with it, and the way it flows and feels when you sing it is incredible.”
“It felt natural to me. It felt simple and enjoyable.”
Alicia also shared that Eros, 62, acted like a “prankster” while they were working together.
She said: “He keeps trying to scare me the whole time, but I am strong. He cannot scare me. But it was wonderful. I love the whole thing and I cannot wait for this project.”
The Fallin’ singer has not released her own studio album since her 2022 holiday project Santa Baby.
Still, early last year she said she was eager to begin a fresh album after spending time creating music for the Broadway production Hell’s Kitchen, which draws inspiration from her life.
She told Vibe: “I am excited about new music through my own label, Alicia Keys Records, which I really love.”
“I feel like the sound of this one will be one of the strongest things I have ever done. I imagine the melodies will be rich, very memorable, very powerful. It is going to carry a great energy. I am still creating it, so I do not fully know everything yet, but I believe 2024 will bring good things. I cannot wait to dive deeper into it.”
And Alicia said she wanted to “explore” wherever her ideas might lead her on her upcoming project.
She told WWD: “I will begin working on the next body of work over the next few months.”
“And I am looking forward to gathering all the feelings and influences and continuing to explore wherever music takes me in its most honest form.”
