Ed Sheeran Says His Candid Lyrics Don’t Threaten His Marriage

Ed Sheeran says his music often comes from the “big extremes” of what he feels.

The Azizam singer recently caused some fans to worry about his marriage to Cherry after the deluxe edition of his album Play arrived. Songs such as Regrets, War Games and Problems suggested tension in their relationship and reflected the difficulties of being away from his wife and their two daughters while touring.

However, Ed explained that he simply wants to be truthful in his songwriting, and his creativity usually appears when his emotions are at their strongest.

During a Spotify pop-up event over the weekend, The Sun’s Bizarre column reported him saying, “Sometimes people hear records today and assume that whatever that song expresses is their life entirely in that moment.

“It is really just heightened emotion. No one sits down to write on a ‘meh’ day.

“You create music when you feel, ‘This is the most love I have ever felt, this is the happiest I have ever been, this is the angriest I have ever been’.

“These are huge emotional moments, and that is where songs come from.

“And that is why people relate to them, because everyone experiences these big feelings.

“I think the only times songs come to life, for me anyway, are in those times of big extremes.”

Ed, who shares daughters Lyra, five, and Jupiter, three, with Cherry, also said his wife understands that even if some songs touch on difficult emotions, there are many others that celebrate their relationship.

He continued, “I think Cherry knows she has songs like Heaven and Perfect.

“It is good to be truthful, and she knows I also write songs like Don’t Look Down and Wargames.”

The thirty-four-year-old musician recently revealed he is considering creating his own performance space where he could hold a residency, allowing him to stay close to his family instead of constantly traveling.

He shared on the Awards Chatter podcast, “I wrote down a list the other day of things that matter to me and one is my family, one is songwriting, one is doing shows.

“If I can reach a point where I am performing, writing music and being with my family, then you can remove the extra noise around it, whatever that noise may be.

“I have looked into the idea of building a venue in my hometown and doing a residency there.

“That would reduce travel and time away from my family.

“I have built a studio nearby that I can use…

“I have one more big tour in me before I settle down for the school years. That seems like the setup I want to follow.

“I do feel like my life gets pretty crowded. I agree to many things and end up doing a lot.”

Ed’s massive Mathematics Tour included 188 shows across five continents and wrapped up in September.

He is now performing on The Loop Tour, which began on December 1, 2025, in Paris, France, and is scheduled to finish in Tampa, United States, on November 7, 2026.
