Josh Homme and Norah Jones Perform ‘Somethin’ Stupid’ Together

Josh Homme and Norah Jones have teamed up for a new take on Frank and Nancy Sinatra’s beloved song ‘Somethin’ Stupid’.

The collaboration was recorded live during a taping of the Norah Jones Is Playing Along podcast, with the full episode set to be released on Tuesday February 10.

Their version leans further into a jazz influenced mood than both the original recording and the 2001 rendition by Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman. The performance begins with Homme easing in on a bluesy acoustic guitar line, before Jones steps forward with a smoky piano progression.

The minimalist piano runs through the entire arrangement as the pair trade harmonies throughout. Halfway in, the Queens Of The Stone Age frontman flips his guitar flat across his lap and creates an improvised rhythm by tapping on its back.

“Yep, that was good,” Homme remarks during the performance, before finishing by applauding Jones and calling it “a good one”. Watch the performance in the video below, and stream all episodes of the podcast here.

The duet arrives shortly after Queens Of The Stone Age released Alive In The Catacombs, a film documenting their atmospheric performance staged inside the underground catacombs of Paris, which debuted last summer.

Following a brief cinema run and a free online release for fans, the band took the project on the road with a Catacombs inspired tour across the UK, Europe and North America. Those shows featured orchestral backing and mirrored the sparse, moody reinterpretations heard in the film, culminating in a closing night at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October.

Since that run, speculation has been building that the group are deep into work on a follow-up to ‘In Times New Roman’, with many fans expecting new music to surface later this year.

The band are also set to tour again this summer, with stadium dates lined up across the UK, Europe and North America. In the UK and Europe they will appear as support for System Of A Down, while US dates will see them on the road with Foo Fighters. Visit here for remaining tickets to UK dates, and here for international tickets.

Alongside his collaboration with Norah Jones on ‘Somethin’ Stupid’, Homme recently took part in a tribute concert honouring late AC DC icon Bon Scott. The event was organised by comedian, podcaster and musician Dean Delray, and featured appearances from Gene Simmons, Bill Burr and Billy Corgan.
