50 Cent has never been shy about trolling his critics online, even when it is not tied to one of his usual direct feuds. Earlier this week, he zoomed out and addressed a broader narrative that has followed him for years in hip hop circles, the idea that Get Rich Or Die Tryin' is the only truly great album in his catalog.
A lot of 50 supporters reject that take, and he clearly does too. On Thursday February 12, he jumped on Instagram to celebrate a new milestone for his 2007 album Curtis. The project officially crossed one billion streams on Spotify, something the G Unit boss sees as a major accomplishment. Beyond the numbers, he views it as proof that the claim about him having just one solid album might not be as factual as critics insist.
"I thought I only had one good album," he wrote in his caption. "which one of your albums got a billion streams that ain’t good? because l know you got bars. LOL."
No one is really arguing against the legendary status of GRODT within 50 Cent’s discography. Still, plenty of fans also ride for his early mixtape run, which makes the conversation less cut and dry than some people frame it.
When Did 50 Cent's Curtis Come Out?
For anyone who might not remember, the album dropped on September 11, 2007. That release date stands out because Curtis went head to head with another major rap figure. On the exact same day, Kanye West put out Graduation.
The competition quickly turned into a public sales battle, with 50 Cent initially saying he would stop putting out solo studio albums if Ye outsold him, a statement he later walked back before release. In the end, the Chicago rapper won the week, moving 957K units compared to Fif’s 691K. It marked a huge moment for hip hop and symbolized a shift in the genre’s power structure.
At this point in his career, 50 Cent’s reluctance to drop new music is not about sales numbers, quality concerns, or lost passion. He is focused on expanding his footprint in film and television, leaning into ventures that better reflect his brand, his knack for building buzz, and his growth as a business mogul.
As for the ongoing debate about him having only one good album, fans are still split. The streaming milestone has sparked fresh discussion around his body of work, showing that the argument is far from settled.
