Rebecca Black has shared details about her upcoming material, explaining that the songs feel “heavier, harder, faster and louder than anything I’ve made before.”

While performing a DJ set in New York last week on March 27, Black spoke with Billboard about the direction of her next releases.

Discussing the material that follows her most recent album, 2025’s ‘Salvation’, she said: “It’s been really exciting to bring more of my dance world into my music and watch how the songs already moving in that direction ended up connecting the most with listeners.

“‘Sugar Water Cyanide’ ended up being the most intense song from my last project, and watching it become the one people responded to the most gave me confidence to keep creating. This new music is heavier, harder, faster and louder than anything I’ve made before,” she added.

Last year also saw Black share the stage again with Katy Perry during a concert, where she invited the pop star to appear during the ‘Lifetimes’ tour.

During the performance, Perry sang her 2011 hit ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ and surprised the crowd by bringing Rebecca Black onstage. The moment brought them back together years after they both appeared in the original music video. Black had made an appearance in the video following the viral success of her breakthrough track ‘Friday’.

In an earlier behind the scenes clip about the making of the ‘Last Friday Night’ video, Perry reflected on working with Black and joked about their connection. “Rebecca and I both love Fridays. So that’s why I asked her to be in this music video because Friday is like my favourite day of the week, and it’s her favourite day of the week,” Perry explained.

Last year, Black also spoke with NME about her journey in the industry and reflected on the 14 years since her viral breakout moment.

“I used to feel this expectation that I should avoid bringing it up because I did not want to be defined by only one chapter of my career,” she said.

“I just hope that people can see [my career] for the full journey. I don’t really care whether people think about anything I’ve done in the past, but it’s nice to think they might appreciate the full context.”
