At times, even someone who thinks they have all the answers needs to pause and actually listen. That idea drives Teddy Swims’ newest release, “Mr. Know It All,” arriving just before his main stage appearance at Coachella this weekend.
“Mr. Know It All” blends a classic soul feel with detailed, layered production that feels rich and immersive, signaling the beginning of a fresh chapter for the American artist.
The new track “dives into the way love can turn into its own contradiction,” Swims shared in a statement. “When you convince yourself you already know the ending, you start to protect your heart by holding back, and that distance ends up causing things to fall apart. At the same time, when you try to push against that outcome and control everything, you risk overwhelming the relationship.”
Looking further into the meaning, “it reflects how fear and the need for control can slowly damage something genuine. It’s essentially a take on Robert K. Merton’s ideas of self-destroying prophecy versus the self-fulfilling prophecy also known as ‘The Prophet’s Dilemma’.”
For “Mr. Know It All,” Swims reconnects with co-writers and producers Julian Bunetta, Ammo and John Ryan, alongside additional writing from Eskeerdo and first-time collaborator Ed Drewett.
On the track, he sings: “Shoulda told you I could see this coming / Like I’m lookin’ right into a crystal ball / When I fall in love it’s with misfortune / Oh, I wish I wasn’t Mr. Know It All.”
Born Jaten Dimsdale in Conyers, Ga., in 1992, Swims first appeared on the Billboard charts in 2021 and caught widespread attention with 2023’s “Lose Control.” In 2025, he earned a nomination for best new artist at the Grammy Awards, and by the middle of that year, he had already made history. “Lose Control” became the first song ever to spend more than 100 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching that milestone on the chart dated July 26, 2025.
Before that, the single moved past the record set by Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves,” which held 91 weeks on the chart in 2021 and 2022, making it the longest-running track since the chart began on Aug. 4, 1958. “Lose Control” has now reached 112 total weeks on the chart.
Following Coachella, Swims will continue his run of live shows with appearances at Stagecoach Festival, BottleRock Napa Valley and New Orleans Jazz Fest, along with a headline slot at Bonnaroo.
