Deep Purple have officially released their new single, Arrogant Boy, giving fans the first taste of their upcoming studio album, SPLAT!.
The track arrives as a loud and energetic hard rock anthem, complete with an official performance video that premiered on YouTube.
Frontman Ian Gillan explained that the song follows a character named Billy, saying: “This is the story of Billy who couldn’t read or write. He is unhappy with things, so he speaks up, and finds a way of irritating, one way or another, the elite. And I can’t think of anything more fun than irritating the elite. It would be a joyous exercise for me every morning after coffee.”
The band also confirmed that SPLAT! is set for release on July 3, continuing a legacy that has seen Deep Purple sell more than 120 million albums since first forming in 1968.
Gillan shared that the band’s current era feels closely connected to the spirit of their classic seventies run, saying: “Where we are now with this incarnation of Deep Purple feels very much like a very ‘now’ version of Deep Purple as it was in the seventies.”
The album reunites the group with longtime producer Bob Ezrin, known for his work with KISS, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper.
Recorded live inside the studio, the band describe the project as some of their heaviest material in years.
Gillan believes the new songs carry the same energy and chemistry as the band’s most iconic records: “I have to say, now we are very much back in with material that is compatible with Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Lazy – the dynamics, the balance, and the fun of the music we made from ‘69 to ‘73.”
The album is also built around a concept created by Gillan that explores the end of humanity through transformation rather than destruction, with more details expected before the release date arrives. Deep Purple will also launch a massive world tour in 2026 featuring 86 shows across 28 countries.
Gillan added: “Deep Purple is in a great place right now."
SPLAT! will be available in several formats including CD, digital edition, standard 2LP, limited purple vinyl and limited transparent yellow vinyl.
Fans can also grab a deluxe box set featuring the album on both 2LP and CD, a 12 page booklet, three exclusive 10 inch live recordings from the 2024 tour, and a special 7 inch single containing the bonus track GUINNESIS, available only in the box set.
Extra collectibles including a picture disc, cassette version and a signed canvas limited to 199 copies will also be sold through the band’s official store.
More music from the album is expected to arrive soon, while pre orders for SPLAT! are now officially live.
