The Snuts have unveiled their uplifting new single, ‘Defibrillator’, while also revealing details of their forthcoming album, ‘Joy In Short Moments’.

The Scottish indie outfit's latest project will mark their fourth studio album. ‘Joy In Short Moments’ is scheduled to arrive on October 23 through Happy Artist Records in collaboration with Virgin Music Group. Pre-orders are available now.

To celebrate the announcement, Jack Cochrane and his bandmates have released the album’s first single, ‘Defibrillator’. Packed with energetic drums and an infectious summer feel, the track focuses on themes of togetherness and appreciation. Its message centres on choosing to be present for loved ones, letting go of ego, and embracing happiness in everyday moments shared with others.

“I wanted to write a track that detailed a conscious decision to live and love more,” the frontman explained, noting that it took him two years of life experiences before the song finally came together.

[It’s a call] to take life less seriously and dilute ego as often as possible. ‘Defibrillator’ is a song that celebrates the collective and trivialises the sludgy worries of being alive.”

Much like its lead single, ‘Joy In Short Moments’ reflects a more stripped back approach from the band and highlights an appreciation for life's simpler pleasures.

Unlike previous albums, which were created while the band were constantly on the move, this record was inspired by a period of reflection. Cochrane stepped away from relentless touring, embraced fatherhood, and began confronting deeper personal questions that had long been overshadowed by life on the road.

“After three records of constant motion, I felt pulled back towards real life,” Cochrane said. “Success, failure, parenthood and loss all found their way into these songs. ‘Joy in Short Moments’ is the sound of reconnecting with what matters and learning to find meaning in the small things whilst navigating the questions; Who am I? Where should I be? Where am I going? What makes it all worthwhile?”

Earlier this year, the group released ‘Summer Rain’, their first new music since 2024. The song explored topics including postnatal depression and anxieties surrounding the future, and it will also appear on the upcoming album.

The band later embarked on a series of UK headline dates in March and also confirmed they will join Kings Of Leon as support acts for two shows on the band's UK and Ireland tour this summer.

Additional appearances scheduled for the summer include performances at Y Not Festival 2026 and the 20th anniversary celebration of Kendall Calling.

Their most recent album, 2024’s ‘Millennials’, received a three-star review from NME, which commended the group for creating “a deep emotional connection while maintaining a party atmosphere we’re all invited to.”
