DJ Akademiks has built a reputation for sharing controversial opinions about the hip hop world, particularly when discussing criminal cases involving rappers. While he no longer produces his "War In Chiraq" videos, his content has shifted into a broader style that gives him more freedom to cover different topics. Even so, he continues to follow major legal stories, with two of the biggest right now involving Lil Durk's alleged murder for hire case and Pooh Shiesty's alleged kidnapping and robbery case connected to Gucci Mane.
DJ Akademiks TV recently posted highlights from one of his livestreams where he spoke about both legal situations. When discussing Smurk, Akademiks shared updates regarding Lil Durk's latest charges and suggested that one of the rapper's codefendants could now be cooperating with prosecutors. The individual in question is Kavon London Grant, who is also known as Vonnie.
According to Akademiks, Grant has reportedly been separated from the list of codefendants, which has fueled speculation that he may be cooperating with authorities. He also claimed that Grant was allegedly among the people Lil Durk informed about the reported plan to kill Quando Rondo. Whether those claims are confirmed will ultimately depend on future court proceedings.
Turning to Pooh Shiesty's case, DJ Akademiks also reacted to the alleged evidence tied to the Gucci Mane investigation. "Y'all know me, I love some Pooh Shiesty," he expressed. "This is the dumbest st I've ever seen. I can't wait to talk about it... The text messages are wild. None of this st's AI. I wish it was AI. They got the cellphone video. Remember I was saying they don't have the video, so he could beat it, Gucci got to double down on the snitching? I ain't gon' lie to you, man. That's the clearest cellphone video I've ever seen, bro... They can't put a video in paperwork. But they have screenshots of the video. And the screenshots are legit. Shiesty's done for that."
Although DJ Akademiks has become a major voice in hip hop media, he is not a legal expert. For now, the outcome of both cases remains uncertain, even if many observers share his concerns about the artists' chances of avoiding convictions.
Lil Durk's alleged murder for hire case recently saw another important development. Several of his codefendants have filed motions requesting separate trials, arguing that they should not be connected to the murder allegations outlined in the case against The Voice.
Meanwhile, prosecutors have accused Pooh Shiesty of having an inappropriate relationship with the supervisor assigned to oversee his house arrest, claiming it played a role in the alleged robbery involving Guwop. Federal investigators recently introduced additional alleged evidence as the rapper continues his efforts to secure bond.
