Cara Delevingne opens up about feeling unpopular in England

Cara Delevingne thinks her concerts in London were the most difficult to sell because people in England may not be particularly fond of her.

The British celebrity, widely recognized for her work in modeling and acting, entered the music world in May with two songs, I Forgot and Out of My Head. She is now preparing to unveil her first album later this summer.

To mark the beginning of this new chapter, Cara launched her first tour in June and performed across 11 cities in Europe and the U.S. However, she acknowledged that her two hometown appearances at 26 Leake Street in London proved the hardest to fill.

Sharing her thoughts on the possible reason, the 33 year old jokingly told The Times, “I don't think English people like me much...”

Suggesting that British culture often enjoys watching people struggle, she added, “That's why I can't stop coming back and trying. It's not to prove myself. Who am I proving myself for? But maybe there is a part of me just trying to make my parents proud, and I see England as my parents, you know?”

Cara established herself in the modeling industry before leaving London for Los Angeles in 2015, where she pursued opportunities as an actress.

Looking back on that move, the Paper Towns star explained to the outlet, “I wanted to reinvent myself. I had to break free, whether from holding myself back or from how people saw me. I just hated myself so much and I was just so fragile. I didn't have a thick enough skin for it then, but I do now.”

The Suicide Squad actress previously told Playboy magazine that she had thought about sharing her songs under a different name so listeners would judge the music without being influenced by her existing fame.

“I didn't want the preconceived ideas. How many people are going to say it's bad without even listening to it?” she said. “Of course, I accept that. People might think it's bad whether they know or care if it's me or not. But that's not why I've done it.”

Cara has not yet revealed either the name or official release date of her upcoming debut album.
