Charli XCX Reveals Her Husband Understands Her Like No One Else

Charli XCX has opened up about how her husband became the "first person who really understood me."

The artist, whose birth name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, revealed that her relationship with George Daniel influenced I'm Afraid, a track featured on her newest album.

During an appearance on the Zane Lowe Show, she explained, "I'm Afraid is a very real song and it's about George and I's relationship, but more specifically my relationship with commitment, I suppose, and why I have a history with that."

She also described Daniel, the drummer for The 1975, as someone who "was the sort of the first person who really understood me so intricately, like my pros and my cons, let's say."

Reflecting on his impact, she continued, "He just gave me so much confidence in myself because he was able to sort of balance me as a human in our private life, you know? I think I owe so much to him because he has helped really allow me to kind of explore these different sides of myself in a way that, sometimes still feels a bit chaotic, but sometimes actually feels quite safe."

The 33-year-old musician went on to say that she "wouldn't be where I am today without" Daniel, 36.

The pair began their romance in 2022 after collaborating on a song. They later tied the knot during a town hall ceremony in July 2025.
