Andy Burrows Shares ‘Nothing Matters Anyway’ Ahead of New Solo Album ‘Map Of The World’

Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows has revealed plans for a new solo album, ‘Map Of The World’, and released its first single, ‘Nothing Matters Anyway’.

‘Map Of The World’ arrives on January 29, 2027 through Burrows’ Free Pass Records. It will be his first solo album in seven years, and you can preorder it here.

Burrows wrote every song himself and recorded most of the album at his home studio in Gloucestershire. Guests include Editors singer Tom Smith, Manic Street Preachers bassist Nicky Wire, We Are Scientists guitarist Keith Murray, Burrows’ younger brother Ben and his daughter Joni.

The first song to be shared, ‘Nothing Matters Anyway’, is a brief, bold track with Murray on guitar. Its driving instrumentation draws on the ’70s, with stacked vocal harmonies adding to the sound.

Burrows explained the idea behind the single: “It’s supposed to be freeing, not negative. We spend so much time caring about what people think, especially with phones and social media. And then you realise: no one gives a shit!”

The name ‘Map Of The World’ was taken from a lyric in a set of words Wire gave Burrows, written in gold lettering. Wire also appears on the album.

Another track, ‘Seriously’, brings Burrows back together with Editors frontman Smith. As Smith & Burrows, they released the Christmas album ‘Funny Looking Angels’ in 2011, then reunited ten years later for ‘Only Smith & Burrows Is Good Enough’.

Before ‘Map Of The World’, Burrows teamed up with author Matt Haig on the 2019 album ‘Reasons To Stay Alive’.

Ahead of that release, Burrows told NME that Haig’s writing helped him explore mental health through music while holding on to “hope and optimism”.

“There is a lot of hope and optimism in his words, without being cheesy,” he said at the time. “There’s an acceptance of anxiety, whether within ourselves or as a result of what’s around us – I think we all go through that.”

Burrows has kept busy beyond his own records, writing music for a range of films and television shows.

He wrote the score for The Snowman And The Snowdog with Ilan Eshkeri. His work with Ricky Gervais has also included David Brent: Life On The Road, After Life and, most recently, the Netflix series Alley Cats.

Burrows is still part of Razorlight, whose classic line-up got back together in 2021. Their 2024 album ‘Planet Nowhere’ was the first to feature Burrows, Johnny Borrell, Björn Ågren and Carl Dalemo together since 2008’s ‘Slipway Fires’.

Earlier this year, Razorlight announced a tour for the 20th anniversary of their self-titled second album.
