MUNA have let fans know that everyone was “safe” after their tour bus caught fire in Los Angeles on Monday (19.10.26).

The incident happened on the 5 Freeway in Burbank, California, shortly after 8am local time.

The Burbank Fire Department and California Highway Patrol quickly arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control. Reports confirmed that nobody was hurt, while authorities have begun investigating what caused the fire.

The pop trio MUNA, made up of Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson, shared a photo of the incident published by news outlet KTLA and reassured fans that all three were unharmed.

Despite everyone escaping without injury, the band revealed that several personal belongings had been lost in the fire and could not be recovered.

They shared the image on Instagram alongside the caption: “MUNA, the band, as featured on the news this morning. Several personal belongings were lost, but thankfully, we’re all safe.”

MUNA are scheduled to take their Gets So Hot Tour across the UK and Europe in November.

The group have also been dealing with a difficult period recently. Guitarist and vocalist Naomi McPherson missed the opening dates of the tour to spend time with their mother Harriet during her final days.

On September 15, the band announced that Naomi would be absent from several early dates on the North American leg, which kicked off in Philadelphia on September 25. They explained that Naomi needed to remain with their mother and take care of arrangements following her death.

Lou Roy temporarily filled in for Naomi at several shows before the musician rejoined the tour.

In their statement, the band explained: “Sadly, Naomi’s mother Harriet had been living with an extremely aggressive and terminal form of cancer for some time, and her condition had become significantly worse over the past few weeks.

“It has now become apparent that her passing will take place around the start of our headline tour.

“Given the terminal nature of her illness, Naomi has been at home spending her final days with Harriet and will remain there after the rest of us leave to manage the arrangements following her passing.

“Naomi wanted the shows to go ahead regardless of whether they could be there, so we have been making arrangements to make that possible.

“When Naomi eventually rejoins the tour, they will return knowing that seeing them perform music brought Harriet more happiness and pride than anything else. We cannot put into words just how much Harriet has meant to the band and how deeply she has touched our hearts and souls.

“As we have discussed performing these shows without Naomi, we kept coming back to the idea that this is one way we can show our love for both Naomi and Harriet during this time. We also believe that our fans will want to come together to share their love and support for our sweetest member.

“If you are attending one of the shows without Naomi and would like to send them some extra love, there will be a place at the merch stand where you can leave a letter for them.”

MUNA also described the situation as “one of the hardest things” they have experienced together as a band and expressed their gratitude to fans for standing by them throughout this challenging time.
