The Peace Studio to ‘Activate Peace and Social Justice’ at Second Annual Summit

The Peace Studio is set to “activate peace and social justice” for their second annual summit this Sunday. Led by peace educator Maya Soetoro of the Obama Foundation, the three-day virtual event will occur in conjunction with the UN International Day of Peace.

Back in June, the organization hosted a virtual panel discussion called “Building Peace Through Music,” addressing peace and the power of youth, and how music can be used to bridge cultural divides.

“In this time of great social and economic uncertainty — a global pandemic, a racial reckoning, a withdrawal from a 20-year war in Afghanistan, and a full-blown climate crisis, among other things, we’re bringing together a number of extraordinary artists and media-makers to promote the urgency of peacebuilding work, within ourselves, in our communities, and around the world,” said Peace Studio executive director Thomas West.

The virtual summit will feature performances by artists including punk rock band The Linda Lindas, Hawaiian singer-songwriter Paula Fuga, and The Voice finalist John Holiday. There will also be panel discussions featuring Common and Viola Davis, among others, and educational workshops.
