Some of today’s biggest stars, activists and advocacy organizations came together on Saturday (Sept. 25) to raise awareness and spark global change at the annual Global Citizen Festival.
Billboard was at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, where Stevie Wonder, Adam Lambert, Chloe x Halle, Demi Lovato, H.E.R., Migos, OneRepublic, Ozuna, The Lumineers and 5 Seconds of Summer took the stage to perform and rally citizens across the planet to demand that governments, major corporations and philanthropists work together to defend the planet and defeat poverty; support the campaign, earn tickets and take action.
The event was part of Global Citizen’s so-called “Recovery Plan for the World,” a campaign which focuses on COVID-19, ending the hunger crisis, resuming learning for all, protecting the planet; and advancing equity.
Following the show, Global Citizen reported 60 million COVID-19 vaccines, 157 million trees, and $1.1 billion committed to climate, famine and COVID-19 response efforts.
See below for the best moments from the Los Angeles Global Citizen Festival.
5 Seconds of Summer’s Calum Hood’s Outfit
The bassist rocked the show in an all-black look, complete with a knee length skirt embellished with a silver chain. He slayed. That’s all.
Demi Lovato and Adam Lambert’s “Mad World” Duet
The two vocal powerhouses teamed up to take on Tears for Fears‘ “Mad World,” which felt like a perfect cover amid the climate crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and the issue with hunger around the world.
The duo nailed the harmonies and the melancholy nature of the song, though it’s not either of their first times performing the 1982 hit. Lovato included their cover of “Mad World” in their seventh studio album Dancing With the Devil… The Art of Starting Over, and Lambert has performed it a number of times, even back in his American Idol days.
Chloe Bailey’s “Have Mercy” Performance
Lord, have mercy! Chloe Bailey, dressed in a stunning glittery gown, belted her viral hit for the crowd, complete with sultry dance moves and wildly impressive vocal runs. Don’t worry though, Halle was right there beside her, proudly supporting her sister on guitar. The performance was met with much deserved, venue shaking cheers.

“I’m gon’ see it through / There’s no one, oh, there’s no one like you / Long as I’m standing, we could never lose / I’ma always, always fight for you,” the star fittingly sang, before hopping on bass for a groovy, powerful bass solo.
Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”
Speaking of H.E.R., she joined the legendary Stevie Wonder on guitar for an explosive performance of “Superstition.” Following the performance, H.E.R. took to social media to express her gratitude for the incredible opportunity.
“THANK YOU @GlblCtzn!” she wrote. “PERFORMED WITH STEVIE WONDER. CAN’T BELIEVE IT. STRONGER TOGETHER.”
Ozuna’s Fiery “Taki Taki” Performance
From the first few recognizable notes, the crowd went wild to hear DJ Snake’s 2018 hit, which features Selena Gomez, Cardi B and Ozuna himself. The high-energy moment of the night included flashing red lights, background dancers and the audience singing along to every word.
