NEWPORT BEACH - DJ Jeff Duran is an innovator. He is a DJ/radio host, comedian, and music producer who works with artists such as Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and NBA YoungBoy. Now, DJ Jeff Duran is taking a bold leap to the other side of the turntables by releasing his solo debut album, “NFT.”
“NFT” combines genres with something for every music fan, but it is not mainstream music. The album is an artistic collection. “I’d love to say it’s like synth-wave and that kind of thing, but it’s a combination of that. There’s alternative rock on there, too, and indie. I call it indie sleaze, ‘cuz it’s a throwback to the sound of six or ten years ago,” said DJ Jeff Duran, who plays all the instruments on the album.
Released on Feb. 4, the 17-track album is a body of songs united for a story, but each piece is different in style and sound. While some songs are considered heavy, leaning toward techno, there is a gradual build to ballads and acoustic tracks. Duran’s songwriting focuses on love loss, isolation, and disappointment; Duran’s songwriting is relatable. With Duran’s experience as a DJ and producer, “NFT” has the perfect blend of songs, creating an unforgettable album.
As a longtime member of the music industry, Duran has seen many changes, good and bad. Recently he said music is becoming benign. “Radio is horrible. Where’s the rock? ‘NFT’ adds some diversity that’s definitely been lacking,” he said.
One track on the album is a cover song for The Used’s “On My Own.” Duran took the inspiration he’s heard for years by one of his favorite bands and added his flair to it, paying homage to The Used and creating his own lane with the song.
“Everyone should not judge the album on one single,” he explained. “It’s a project - an album that has a lot of surprises on it. ‘On My Own’ sets the tone since it’s recognizable and familiar to listeners. There’s music on here for all radio stations and genres.”
On the official release date, “NFT” will be available to purchase on Duran’s website. The online package includes a physical copy of “NFT” and Duran’s documentary.
While the title of Duran’s album screams cryptocurrency, there are a few mentions of NFTs, including a track entitled “NFT,” but the title is used to stay current and relevant to 2022. The title blends perfectly with Duran’s song selection and his mastery of making music. Duran connects with music fans worldwide with more than 100K YouTube followers.
“I’m unafraid and have no fear to take on whatever comes,” said Duran. “I’m taking chances and putting myself out there. I am a fearless performer.”
With no signs of slowing down as he continues his musical journey, Duran’s fearlessness puts his artistic creativity on full display in “NFT.”
