HOUSTON - New artists often box themselves into a particular genre and music style. Up-and-coming artist Odizzy is blossoming into a diverse musician right in front of our eyes - and ears. His single, “Tax” ft. Saks Flip Ave is proof that he is a contender among newcomers.

“Every song is going to sound different. I don’t sound like anybody, and I sound different in every song,” said Odizzy when asked about his style. “I can be diverse with beats, drill, and trap fast and slow, it’s different, and that’s what I bring to the music industry.”

Born and raised in Texas, Odizzy’s vernacular includes Down South Houston slang and jargon, which is one way he stands out among other hip hop contenders. With a workman-type attitude and always getting down to business, Odizzy focuses on what he knows best when writing. “I write about things in my life, what I’ve seen, and things around me. I got to keep the truth and bring awareness to these things. I try to keep it as authentic as possible,” he said.

Since making the leap to pursue music as more than just a hobby, Odizzy has been writing and performing at a steady pace. The first six months he was on the scene, he dropped six videos. There is no stopping Odizzy, and “Tax.” is another example of his growth as an artist.

“Tax,” featuring Saks Flip Ave, is a grimy up-tempo rap about street hustling and the “tax” people pay for survival. “The vibe is attacking people in the streets who are hustling. We are taxing them for the products we have,” said Odizzy. “It’s hustlers and trappers out in the street grinding.”

At age 17, Odizzy started running in the streets and dealing with the hustlers, so “Tax” is an honest take on street survival from his perspective. Additionally, he includes lyrics about his family and the importance of staying safe so he can provide for his family.

In addition to “Tax,” Odizzy’s latest single is the melodic “No Hook,” a slower vibe that reveals his softer side. “‘No, Hook’ is me trying to chill and be laid back. I’m just singing and vibing about me coming up now. I’m tired of waiting for it. My time is now. I’m putting my head down and grinding,” he explained.

“No Hook” is a departure from the streetwise hardcore trap of “Tax,” but it showcases Odizzy’s growth and versatility.

When not in the studio, Odizzy pursues other business ventures, including being a landowner, operating a trucking business, and creating his brand, Real Ova Ride Entertainment.

Looking back at his discography and his music future, he said, “I’m going to be me as a stand-up, honorable man. I’m going to give it to you raw every time. I’m actually living what I’m rapping about. I’m talking about something. This isn’t mumble rap. I’m trying to educate people in the circumstances the way I see it.”
