Kylie Minogue Addresses Claims She Imitated Taylor Swift

Kylie Minogue has addressed fan chatter suggesting Taylor Swift copied her style.

The Australian pop icon expressed her “respect and admiration” for fellow performers who embody the showgirl aesthetic, following some fans' comparisons of Taylor’s recently revealed album cover to Kylie’s iconic looks.

Posting on Instagram alongside a carousel of photos of herself in elaborate showgirl costumes, Kylie, 57, wrote, “When all your friends start sending you your Showgirl memes!!! Aww.”

She explained that “Showgirl” refers to female singer-dancers in cabaret and chorus line performances, adding, “Showgirl life is ‘a thing,’ multi-dimensional and so much more than feathers and dazzle. Respect and admiration to all my fellow hard-working Showgirls.”

Taylor, 35, announced her upcoming record, The Life of a Showgirl, on August 12, revealing cover art that features her in a showgirl ensemble.

Many of Kylie’s fans quickly drew comparisons to her stage wardrobe, particularly from her Showgirl: The Greatest Hits tour and the accompanying concert film Kylie Minogue: Showgirl.
