Tate McRae has dismissed the suggestion that she could portray Britney Spears in a future biographical film.

In November 2024, Jon M. Chu revealed that he had agreed to direct a cinematic version of the pop icon's 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me.

Although no one knows whether casting conversations have begun, Tate was asked in a Rolling Stone profile published on Thursday if she would think about auditioning for the project.

"I need to take an acting lesson before I'd even consider ever doing anything," she answered.

Even though Tate is often compared to Britney when it comes to dancing and stage presence, the Canadian performer stressed that she does not feel she shares much of a likeness with the Princess of Pop.

"And also, I feel like I look nothing like her or sound nothing like her, so I don't know if I'd be a great fit," the 22-year-old continued.

Earlier this year, Tate acknowledged that she was unsure how to feel about being likened to a younger version of Britney.

"It's such a crazy statement because no one can compare to Britney Spears," she told The Independent. "It's like comparing someone to Michael Jackson. That's the blueprint!"

In another part of the Rolling Stone piece, Tate reflected on her third studio album, So Close to What.

Among all the songs on the record, she explained that she consistently anticipated performing Purple Lace Bra during her Miss Possessive Tour, which finished last month.

"I see the girls in the front row screaming that," she said with a smile. "It gives me full-body chills because I'm just like, 'Oh, we're all experiencing this. This is not just me. It's everybody who feels this frustrating feeling that it's gone on for so f**king long.'"
