During the height of Drake’s feud with Rick Ross and several others in 2024, rumors circulated claiming he had issued a cease and desist to French Montana over his appearance on “Splash Brothers.” Some believed that situation played a role in Ross distancing himself from the 6ix God. French recently addressed the speculation in more detail while speaking with Bootleg Kev on a new episode of The Bootleg Kev Podcast.

“There’s a leaked version with Drake,” he said, as noted by ZADCOZZY on Twitter. “The ‘Splash Brothers’ record never officially dropped with Drake because the version we had included a verse from Rozay. I think Drake was expecting another verse from Rozay for that song. He probably wanted him to redo it. Maybe something was said in that first verse or maybe something else happened.” He added more context, saying, “It was meant to be a ‘Stay Schemin’ part two. Drake sent me ‘Splash Brothers’ for his album. It was his record first, and he passed it to me.” French explained that Drizzy asked him to record three separate hooks, chose the strongest one, and finalized the song once The Boy laid his verse. When they later connected in the Bahamas, Ross had already completed his contribution.

Many assumed the collaboration was originally intended for More Life, based on the timeframe French described. “Ross didn’t send his verse back in time, so Drake asked me if I wanted the record,” French Montana shared while reflecting on the situation involving Drake and Rick Ross. “I told him I would take it. It was never really my song to begin with.” Bootleg Kev then shifted the conversation to the tension between the two rap heavyweights.

“It’s going to happen,” French said about the possibility of the “Lord Knows” collaborators reconciling. “Brothers argue and then they come back together. It’s part of life. Nobody got hurt, nobody lost their life, so I believe it’ll get resolved.” He also recently spoke on where things stand between him and Drake, assuring supporters that there is no bad blood. French even floated the idea of the OVO boss teaming up with his longtime associate Max B for a future record, something fans would definitely welcome.
