Chappell Roan has revealed she got emotional after receiving her own Fortnite skin, while also unveiling a special limited-edition merch drop tied to the long-awaited collaboration.
Last year, Roan publicly called on Epic Games to turn her into a playable character in the online battle royale Fortnite during a BBC interview. “Please give me a skin. Please,” she said at the time. “If I want to have a really good night, I’ll just eat an edible and play video games.”
That request finally became reality earlier this month when she was introduced as the newest headliner for Fortnite Festival, bringing a collection of Chappell Roan skins, emotes and jam tracks into the game. “When Chappell Roan asks for her own Fortnite outfit, we give her her own Fortnite outfit,” Epic Games shared on X.
The collaboration will run through March 6, and to mark the occasion, Roan has dropped two exclusive t-shirts that fans can purchase here.
In a message sent out to fans, Chappell Roan said: “I do not cry a lot and me having a Fortnite skin had me in tears. It just looks so awesome.”
Players can currently choose from three different Roan-inspired outfits. Two take cues from her live performance looks, while a third design titled Roan Of Arc draws inspiration from her performance of ‘Good Luck, Babe’ at the 2024 VMAs.
To help launch the collaboration, Epic Games released a visually striking trailer that blends multiple animation styles, including stop-motion. The clip was widely praised online, especially for its “anti-AI” approach. “It’s hard to believe that Fortnite of all things would continue to be a bastion of human created art,” one fan wrote. “It’s so refreshing to get to see real, hand-crafted art in media like this,” another added.
Earlier this month, Roan also shared that she is a big fan of the soundtrack from the online game RuneScape during a conversation with Hemlocke Springs.
Following her arrival in Fortnite, fellow pop artist Madison Beer has also reached out to Epic Games in hopes of getting her own skin. “Let’s get serious. Stop changing things that we love about Fortnite. Keep it original and give me a skin, please!”
In other gaming news, the developers behind Marvel’s Wolverine have officially confirmed the release date for the long-awaited superhero title, and it is arriving sooner than many had expected.
