Courtney Love says she has no bad blood with Dave Grohl, though she admits there is still one issue she wishes he would address with the Foo Fighters singer.
During a recent appearance on The Magnificent Others With Billy Corgan released Wednesday, the Hole frontwoman spoke candidly about Grohl, who was a former bandmate of her late husband Kurt Cobain in Nirvana. “Grohl, come out with it and just say we’re cool,” she said. “Be man enough.”
“Man up, because you’re the uber man that has all the straight males,” she added while speaking with Corgan. “And we’re cool, but you won’t say it, because you’re afraid you’ll lose your audience. You’re afraid it’ll affect your relationship with literal Paul McCartney … Dave, it would really behoove me if the straight white males that are your base would stop picking on me.”
Love also suggested that Grohl may have referenced her in several of his songs over the years. “I couldn’t write a song about Dave Grohl to save my life,” she said. “He’s written, like, four songs about me, and they’re hits. I’m like, ‘Wait what?'”
Billboard has contacted Grohl’s representatives for a response.
Love and Grohl have experienced a complicated relationship over the years. In 2014, Love publicly questioned Nirvana’s surviving members after they performed with McCartney at the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy charity concert. The two were also involved in legal disputes following Cobain’s death in 1994 regarding Nirvana’s music rights.
Despite their past disagreements, the two shared a friendly moment on stage during Nirvana’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2014.
