RAYE has stirred up new talk about who might perform the next James Bond theme after a recent interview at the iHeart Radio Awards started spreading quickly online.
A moment between the singer and presenter Smallzy at the iHeart Radio Awards caught attention after he shared the clip on Instagram with the caption: "Did Raye just give away she’s doing the next ‘BOND’ theme song?”
Speaking with her on the red carpet at the Los Angeles event last week, he brought up the topic directly. He asked RAYE: “The rumours start with maybe a Bond theme.”
Clearly caught off guard, the Where Is My Husband? singer responded carefully, saying: “I don’t know what to say, I’m nervous.
“No, there’s no rumour, now I’m going red and it looks like there is a rumour. No, there’s no rumour."
Even if she has not yet been approached to record the famous 007 track, RAYE made it clear she would welcome the opportunity.
She went on to say: “Obviously if they ever want to approach me about that, my inbox is open.”
At the beginning of March, bookmaker William Hill reported that Olivia Dean had moved into the top spot among the favourites to perform the next Bond theme after her memorable appearance at this year’s BRIT Awards.
The Man I Need artist, who took home several awards and gave one of the most talked about performances of the evening, became the even money favourite according to the betting company to record the next Bond soundtrack.
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said Olivia’s recent success has clearly connected with both Bond followers and those placing bets.
He stated: “Olivia Dean’s BRIT Awards clean sweep and live performance have clearly hit a high note with James Bond fans, and she’s now our even-money favourite to deliver the next 007 theme."
Phelps continued: “After a weekend where Dean was crowned the UK’s new queen of pop, it’s no surprise that she’s most fancied to open the credits in the next Bond film.”
RAYE was listed just behind her at 7/2, while Lana Del Rey at 4/1 and Dua Lipa at 7/1 were also seen as strong contenders. Harry Styles was placed at 10/1, with Miley Cyrus and Oasis both at 12/1. Newer names Chappell Roan and Charli XCX followed with odds of 16/1.
