‘Bedridden’ Alex Warren calls off Auckland performance at the last minute

Alex Warren had to call off his concert at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Monday night (24.08.26), announcing the cancellation only a few hours before he was scheduled to perform because he was unwell.

The Ordinary singer, who is currently travelling on his Finding Family on the Road World Tour and preparing to release his second studio album Wildchild later this week, said he was devastated by the decision after becoming "bedridden" and being unable to "talk let alone sing".

In a message shared on social media, he wrote: “I never have to do this and it breaks my heart to even write this but I have to cancel tonight’s show.

“I have tried everything to be able to make this show work and I’m sadly bedridden sick at the moment. I can barely talk let alone sing and it sadly isn’t possible to play tonight’s show.

“I understand what it takes to be able to attend concerts and the fact so many of you travelled for this one has made this decision even more difficult. I love you so much and hope you understand.”

Promoter Frontier Touring also addressed the cancellation, saying: “Alex is devastated to miss the show and has been looking forward to performing for his Auckland fans.

“He sincerely thanks fans for their understanding and support.”

Fans who had purchased tickets were automatically issued refunds.

The 25 year old artist is currently scheduled to return to the stage in Sydney, Australia, on August 28, which is also the release date of his upcoming album.

At this point, there has been no confirmation on whether Warren will have recovered enough to perform at the Sydney show.

Elsewhere, Ed Sheeran recently revealed that he had felt "jealous" of the success of Ordinary.

The 35 year old musician opened up about his admiration for the song when he joined Alex for a performance of the 2025 hit during his Loop Tour concert in San Diego in July.

Speaking to the audience, he said: "I met someone last year who released a song that I was jealous of. I loved the song.

"I got in touch with him, and I was like, 'We should sing this song together, I love this song.'

"He sent me an email yesterday, and he said, 'Can me and my family come to your gig in San Diego?'

"And I was like, yes, but I would like to sing with you."

Ordinary remained at the top of the UK chart for 11 straight weeks, making it the longest running No.1 in the UK for an American male solo artist in over seven decades and tying with Ed's Bad Habits for the longest running No.1 of the 2020s.
