Chappell Roan was thrilled to give Olivia Rodrigo's song ‘Expectations’ a remix with a playful, queer twist.

The two pop stars released a fresh take on Thursday, reworking the track by the ‘Vampire’ singer, which first appeared on her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.

Speaking to Apple Music's Zane Lowe about her contribution, Chappell, whose real name is Kayleigh Amstutz, said she wanted to bring a fun and lighthearted energy to her verse.

“I love making things a little gay,” she said with a smile, describing the track as the “perfect” opportunity to make her debut as a featured artist.

The ‘Pink Pony Club’ singer, who has openly discussed her sexuality, also shared her admiration for Olivia's original track.

“I was like, 'Wow, it's so cool that she is putting a pretty difficult concept within a pop song,'” the 28 year old explained. “I was like, 'This is so real.'”

Olivia, meanwhile, revealed that a conversation she had with Chappell about relationships helped inspire part of the song.

“I have a vivid memory of being in the studio with you, Chappell, and we were trying to write the second verse, and I was telling you all of the crazy stuff that boys have done to me,” she recalled. “And you're like, 'Oh my God, you need to start dating girls. This is crazy.'”

Chappell also appears alongside the 23 year old Olivia in the remix's accompanying music video, where the pair take on different roles in a retro game show showdown.

The video also features special appearances from David Byrne and producer Dan Nigro.
