Ryan Gosling is stepping back into the music world for the first time in 17 years.

The 45 year old actor is widely recognised for his work in Hollywood, but in 2009, he joined forces with his friend Zach Shields to launch the musical project Dead Man's Bones.

Nearly 20 years after releasing their self titled debut album, the pair have confirmed that new music will arrive on October 27.

On Thursday (22.10.26), the duo shared an eerie video on Instagram, setting the mood for their return just in time for Halloween.

The clip features a mysterious voice delivering the following lines: "Dead man’s bones must wait to rise, from the house where shadows cry.

"All of this must change October 27, when our ghosts must leave our world for this, to dance with us at twilight time, and bring your hand to lie in mine.”

Dead Man's Bones' debut record featured a collaboration with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir and drew heavily on themes of ghosts, monsters and the supernatural.

The news follows a major tease from Ryan's partner Eva Mendes, who recently hinted that the duo were preparing to release new music.

Taking to her own Instagram account, she wrote: "Trying to summon new music from Dead Man’s Bones."

In a separate post, she added: "Wouldn't be spooky season without DEAD MAN'S BONES. Sure with they had new music coming out..."

When one fan asked whether she knew "something we don't", Eva responded playfully: "Maybe I do..."

Following the official announcement, she shared another message, writing: "He came through on his promise to me.”

Earlier this year, Ryan spoke about how his shared fascination with Disneyland's Haunted Mansion helped bring him and Zach together in the first place.

Speaking to NME, he recalled: "When I went on the Haunted Mansion ride when I was 12, it presented [death] like: ‘Well, maybe it’s not so bad or scary. Maybe it’s fun.’

"So it just clicked for me. I’ve always loved that [Haunted Mansion] ride and Disney’s approach to scary things, like [Walt Disney’s 1929 short film] The Skeleton Dance and [1937 cartoon] The Old Mill.

"They’ve an angle on [scary things] that’s very unique.”

When the pair first entered the studio, they wanted to take on every instrument themselves. The duo have not performed live together since 2010.

Ryan explained: "The goal was to figure it out. There was a quality to [that approach] that we liked, but I’m sure we had people come in and help make [the album] actually work."
