With each of the former One Direction members now focused on their own solo paths, it has become more common to see several of them touring around the same time. When that situation comes up, Niall Horan says there is one thing he makes sure to avoid during his own performances.
During a video interview with NME released Friday (March 27), the Irish pop artist spoke about the way he plans the songs for his tours. This includes how he decides which One Direction songs make it into his live shows. Over the years, Horan has performed tracks such as “Fool’s Gold,” “Drag Me Down,” “Night Changes,” and “Story of My Life” during his solo concerts.
“I just play me favorites, I suppose,” he said. “And I try to stay away from it if the lads are doing it — if Harry [Styles] is touring and he’s playing ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ every night, it’d be a bit stupid for me to do the same song at the same time. Or Louis [Tomlinson] did ‘Drag Me Down’ on his first tour, so I kept away from that, and then I did it the next time.”
Horan also talked about songs from One Direction’s five album discography that he feels deserve more recognition. “I think ‘Steal My Girl,’ just got to say it, it’s underrated,” he told the publication. “Hot take. It was robbed of its day in the sun. I think ‘Fool’s Gold’ is underrated.”
At the moment, Styles’ Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally is spending a second consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while Horan’s Dinner Party is scheduled for release on June 5. Both artists are preparing to head out on tour in 2026. Tomlinson is already performing shows following the release of his January album How Did I Get Here?, while Zayn, who departed One Direction in 2015, recently dropped his fifth studio album Konnakol and is also preparing for a tour later this year.
