Laufey and Tegan and Sara are set to make guest appearances in one of three brand new episodes of The Simpsons created exclusively for Disney+.
According to an announcement made on Thursday, May 28, via Variety, three fresh stories will arrive on the streaming platform this summer. The episodes are titled Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition premiering June 17, Simpsley arriving July 3, and Yellow Mirror debuting August 26.
Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition will feature guest appearances from actor Betty Gilpin, Laufey, and the Canadian pop duo Tegan and Sara. The official description states: “Homer and Marge’s fun couples’ date night goes off the rails when Marge learns Homer left the kids unsupervised with only the doorbell camera as a babysitter. Frustrated with her imperfect husband, a tipsy Marge stirs up a trilogy of fantasies of a different Homer.”
Simpsley takes inspiration from classic film noir storytelling and follows Marge in the role of a con artist. Meanwhile, Yellow Mirror offers a satirical take on Black Mirror. Its synopsis reads: “A defective lamp reveals a heartbreaking truth about what Homer believes is reality, and an AI-powered tablet befriends and controls Maggie. The Simpsons struggle to find the light through two dark tales of the curious and bizarre.”
Now more than 800 episodes into its run, The Simpsons continues to expand in new directions, with Disney+ exclusive specials becoming part of its evolution. The show's producers have recently discussed the reduced use of its iconic couch gags, while the series has also confirmed plans to produce fewer episodes in the future. A second Simpsons movie is currently slated for release in 2027.
Over the years, the long-running animated series has also become famous for seemingly forecasting real world events, including Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox and the presidency of Donald Trump. Adding another unexpected twist, writer Dan Greaney recently revealed plans to launch a presidential campaign for the 2028 election.
